Random Top 5 Western

Putting together a list of the Top 10 Guy Movies became a tougher task than I set out for, so I decided to break them up into categories before I finalize my list...

5. No Country for Old Men - An instant classic in my mind. The ruthless man hunt story set in the desolate modern American Southwest not only captured the essence of the old westerns but sets the stage for a very ominous outlook on todays wild, wild west. Plus than damn cattle gun was so scary.

Memorable Quote - "I think you do. So this is what I'll offer - you bring me the money and I'll let her go. Otherwise she's accountable, same as you. That's the best deal you're gonna get. I won't tell you you can save yourself, because you can't."

4. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid - It's the perfect buddy western, and there were no better on screen buddies than Newman and Redford. This one has the perfect amount of comedy, drama and balls out action (see end scene) to rank among the best of all time.

Memorable Quote - "You should have let yourself get killed a long time ago when you had the chance. See, you may be the biggest thing that ever hit this area, but you're still two-bit outlaws. I never met a soul more affable than you, Butch, or faster than the Kid, but you're still nothing but two-bit outlaws on the dodge. It's over, don't you get that? Your times is over and you're gonna die bloody, and all you can do is choose where."

3. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo) - Although this one is on every list in the top 5 of all time, I just don't think it stacks up well against modern westerns. Although its clearly Clint's best movie and the filmmaking is impeccable, it's old style slow pace makes it dull and hard to watch at parts. Amazing movie overall with an even better ending.

Memorable Quote - "You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."

2. Unforgiven - This is an acting sequel to #3, Clint is older and his character is an aged outlaw who is still fine tuned in the art or ruthless gunslinging. I love this movie and can watch it over and over just for the fact that William Munny (probably the best name ever in a movie) is known as the killer of women and children. Never been a more badass reputation than that.

Memorable Quote - "That's right. I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawled at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned."

1. Tombstone - Highly debatable, I know, but I dare you to find a western that gets your blood boiling more. When the Earps plus Doc are walking down to square off at the O.K. Corral, I mean that defines the movie showdown. Given you don't get the memorable whistle gun fight soundtrack but the action in Tombstone can't be beat. Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday performance is by far the best of his career and Kurt Russel's Wyatt Earp is smart, strong minded and equally menacing. A western flick made for a man

Memorable Quote - "So run, you cur... RUN! Tell all the other curs the law's comin'! You tell 'em I'M coming... and hell's coming with me, you hear?"
