Heh, after checking all of my batteries are fine. darn! (or good)
was sort of hoping to get a free update on the battery. but to be honest. would be a waste of time, as i will probably buy one of the new macbook pro's soon.
whenever the new models are released.

Would you like to hear what former president Eisenhower had to say on the issue?
Actually, that is what those links go to :)

There is nothing wrong with shopping at Wal-Mart, whether it be for school supplies, tv for a college dorm room, or toothpaste.
To the point, there are documentaries and sociological studies that exist documenting Wal-Mart's "bullying" ways in the marketplace. Just like the vacuum story - they demand lower prices from their suppliers so they can provide lower prices for customers. If they don't get what they want, they'll go to China. I hope they finally get caught. Wal-Mart is an easy target right now, but at least my toothpaste is cheap. :)

And Firefight is my number one seed, I just wish death had a bigger penalty.
Firefight is great fun, especially Score Attack. I play the crap out of that. There was another playlist update today, tweaking Firefight, along with some other things. They have bumped regular Firefight up from 1 round to a full set, so that is nice. Also, Bungie mentioned in an update recently that they were going to probably down the road add in a "Firefight Classic" mode to Matchmaking. That would be like it was in ODST, where your team has a limited number of lives for the team. They also said they will probably be adding a Legendary difficulty option as well, so that will bump up the challenge quite a lot.
I really hoping Microsoft re-releases Halo 1 and 2, using the reach engine.
Halo Anthology, with all 5 games, all updated using the Reach engine. Believe! ;)

I said the same thing, basically, way back in this thread:

"As far as sharing in your range. Again a waste of battery to support this. I have what I wnat ton hear for the most part. I don't much care to drain my battery searching other users' libs (that will come and go as they wander around and in and out of range - oh great, I found a cool Streets video I don't have!! Oh wait he just left range!!!), it's short-lived enough already."
Steve should hire me when I get back.:D

I could really see that, with the iPhone 3G (it was actually the 3rd phone) and had 3G.

What happens to the Facebook app now? Do they get someone else in or do they just let it rot?
He stated that support for the Facebook app would be taken over by someone else.
He said he personally was frustrated and going back to web programming.
Let's see, before Apple, there was no useful mobile app market.
Anyone who's had smartphones knows about Handango.
Handango has been around for a decade, with tens of thousands of apps for all kinds of phones. Some carriers even included Handango's specific store app, which existed years before the iPhone came along.

I actually remember you mentioning that. I should have screen capped that post.
Not like anyone would want to see me run around my complex naked, but I don't think we will ever see a phone out of Apple, especially at WWDC.
And no Conroe in iMac. Evar. ;)

Sometimes the stores that someone wouldn't suspect (or ever shop out) of having something are the ones that those "in the know" can find something.
Just before Christmas I figured my son and daughter were old enough for our first XBox 360. I went to the 4 Best Buys close to my house (Gilbert, AZ) and all pretty much laughed at me, out of stock. I called a guy that I know from a club I'm in that managed a local Walmart. He said of his stock of 12 that he got in the prior week he had only sold 1. Apparently in my town no one shops at Walmart for an Xbox? All I know is I drove down there and sure enough they had a small pile of them with hardly anyone in the electronics department.

Why is this on the front page? It's like saying that WalMart is now selling a junk tablet. Except this article says that Toys R Us and Best Buy is now selling iPads. This isn't front page news.
I have to disagree, but I'm on board with you about the front page news. I have to admit I was upset with that silly "jared guy" (or whatever his name was) standing in line for his ipad 2. How in the world is this news?
[BB Code: soapbox] It seems like so much of 'entertainment' or 'news' these days is giving 15 minutes of fame to those doing the things that most people have no interest in doing or even care about. Like, standing in line for 5 days for an iphone. Really? Who cares? I hope to never see front page "news" about some person standing in line to buy a luxury item while others in the world can't find a job...are buried under an earthquake...tornados...starvation...you pick[/soapbox]
At least this post has merit in that it tells those interested in buying where they can now get the ipad.

I suppose part of that is you can tell which computers are Apples from quite a distance, but not really tell the difference between HP and Dell.
I don't compare Apple to Dell or to HP. I just check if there is an apple on the cover or not.
The part I find hysterical is when on TV the news show puts tape on top of the Apple logo. Or in the print ad the apple logo is photoshopped off.
BTW one time the news show was talking about mobile phones and the 5 members of the news team all took out their phones to check them.
4 of the 5 were iPhone 4 and the fifth guy just looked embarrassed.

WOW! Guys please go and read the 10-year old forums, it's amazingly fun!
There are comments like:
"I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!"
It's totally like any other new product announcement today :D
On topic: I think Apple has some amazing ideas, but also that they don't hesitate to ditch them for something new if they think it's better. I think this is the only way to evolve in today's world. Most companies stick to their traditional stuff and keep pushing it even if it's not as good as it could be, just because it was some great idea they had many years ago. Apple has absolutely no respect for tradition and will always be the first to replace one of their best inventions with something totally different. I find this admirable and dangerous at the same time, but so far it had worked great for them.
While many people will still stick to traditions, Apple won't. Rationally, the click-wheel has no real advantage over a touch screen. It's slower to navigate a menu if you have to scroll through it, rather than just press whatever you like. Yes, it is awesome and you got used to it and it looks nice, but Apple won't care for that. It's good and bad at the same time.

I just cancelled my MacBook+iPod-order... The folks at Apple couldn't say if the back to school-offer would still be valid if I switched iPods so I'm placing a new order on Tuesday so I can save 200 bucks on the iPod :)
When new products are released, the existing promotional deals don't always apply to them.

Well, I have a 15"PB, A1148, and serial of battery is 3K537xxxx..., but it says no-go on website....
Good question. The FAQ you've linked to quotes:

While the actual recall site, https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/ (which is linked from the FAQ site) quotes:

I expect the dust will settle, eventually.

So have they shown this homemade video yet? It's midnight where I am, so I guess I'll just find out the results in the morning. It would be funny if today's updates patched the exploit, though.
I'm interested what kind of control over the machine they can achieve, or if it's only to make it turn off/reboot, etc.

Why not 4GB of RAM?
The system uses some of the 4 GiB of physical address space to map I/O busses and devices.
For example, that 256 MiB of VRAM on the graphics card appears in the physical address space -- which means that only 3.75 GiB is available for real memory. PCIe busses take more, as well as network and other needs. PCI Express reserves a lot of memory for I/O space.
A with a 32-bit chipset the OS has to "ignore" any real memory that's usurped by I/O space reserved addressing. A 64-bit chipset (with a 64-bit OS) doesn't have that problem.
I have a 4 GiB Dell D620, but Windows and Linux only see about 3.1 GiB of that due to the I/O space issues. I expect that OSX86 has the same restrictions - since it's a hardware issue.
IBM only offers 3 GiB configs of the same Yonah/Napa combination - apparently to avoid "where's the rest of my memory" complaints. It looks like Apple is copying IBM's approach.
_____________________
The ProMac has a 64-bit capable chipset, so the memory extensions that were used for the PowerMac G5 can be used to avoid this issue.
The Napa chipset is 32-bit - Santa Rosa will be 64-bit.
