Uh, isn't the world in 3D? I mean, we do see in three dimensions, correct? Is this a clever way of saying you are blind?
The world is in 3D but we only see in 2D, with depth perception if you have two working eyes. 3D vision would entail all three dimensions being visible at once. You can see the entire width and height of something but you can't see its entire depth in the same glance. A 3D view would allow you see all the corners of a cube as right angles just like 2D vision lets you see all right angles of a square.
IOW organic depth perception is as much a gimmick as 3D as a consumer product. Both instances entail two slightly disparate 2D images that give your brain a better idea of where in space they are, not an entire extra visual dimension of information. Nothing evolutionary in regards to visual media, barely enriching, and not at all necessary.

Despite all the talk about paper having "superior resolution" to displays, the human eye can't really tell the difference in the size of the dots making up the print past a certain point.
The main reason displays cause eyestrain when trying to read something like a book is the fact that they're backlit. Basically, it's akin to staring into a small flashlight. The much talked-about "e-ink" or "e-paper" is interesting because it would simply work with reflected light from existing sources - just like reading real paper.
If the other "video ipod" rumors are true, Apple is looking at using the new "OLED" display technology for the next iPod. That's not going to be quite as "paper-like" as the "e-ink/e-paper" technologies, but should provide better contrast (and resolution) than LCD technology. So that means it will be better than most devices at reducing eyestrain while reading, but not as easy on the eyes as a real paper book either.

I'm confused. Are iPad 2s in short supply or not? If they cannot be found at multiple Apple stores, why is Apple broadening distribution to Toys R us?
Toys R Us have been a retailer since day 1. There is no broadening here. And using multiple retail outlets means that Apple is not limited in the territories it covers with its own store chain. That is why since day 1, multiple retail chains have carried the iPad 2.

No you would not. As there have been no more in the country. Its all good, I'm more than happy to wait. As per in my post 3-4 weeks stayed like that for 2 weeks, then 2-3 weeks stayed like that for 2 weeks into the 3rd week now.
I'm sure Apple are doing their best and are likely under the pump due to a very large interest & Japan disasters.
When they do come in, I'm sure there will be oodles of them around.

Yeah, Blu Ray players are pretty useless because of the PS3, which is usually cheaper and can play Blu Ray anyway. Of course, my dad got a Blu Ray player before I could say anything :rolleyes:
And I think the digital copy is useless because of Netflix, which can just stream it. The internet is the future for now, not discs.
I don't know about the digital copy being useless. I have netflix and I also add movies to itunes. I see them as complimentary. Some items I do not care to purchase and it is nice to have netflix. On the other hand I like owning movie and TV shows that I really like. Also netflix doesn't have everything I want. And don't forget when traveling, you don't always have good internet.
The Apple TV is nice because it accesses both netflix and my itunes media.
Anyway movies I really like, I tend to buy physical copies anyway and rip them to add to itunes. The digital copy/blu ray is better as I can play the 1080p version once in a while and access it on the computer/ iOS anytime.
I'm looking forward to the release of Lord of the Rings extended edition coming out this summer on blu ray. I believe that has digital copy too.

Most people here are missing the big picture. I'm pretty old and have witnessed the changes in the tech sector. Back in '01 a lot of laptops were made or at least assembled in the USA, and they were quality products, but with cheap foreign labor most global companies could not resist the couple of percent they could add to their profit margins by moving overseas. The company I worked for made laptops for a major name, but they closed the plant here to save between 3.00 and 6.00 dollars per unit, a very small percentage of the overall value. A company like Apple could easily, make and assemble products here, the profit margin on an iPhone is around 60%, but if they did that then there profit margin would only be 50%. In 2000, American EXPORTED more high tech components than it imported. Here is the .gov source (http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c0007.html#2000). We have competed and still can. As the Yuan rises against the dollar because the Chinese government can no longer keep it down the price on all these goods will rise, this is happening right now, the Chinese government can't combat inflation and rising food prices. I think this is wonderful news! But not surprising. People have been waiting for this for so long. We always knew this partnership was meant to be, for it was written, or rather sung...After all, in the song “A Hard Day’s Night” there is a line that has a double reference to Apple Computers.

The reference to "iWork" is obvious, and it’s disappointing no one noticed this earlier. This is the Beatles urging people to use iWork instead of Microsoft Word when doing stuff for business.
But more importantly, if you play the second part of this line backward, “to buy you things” (http://homepage.mac.com/autrefois/macrumors/ipodbeatles2.m4a), you can clearly can hear John Lennon singing “Now ya have a iPod” (http://homepage.mac.com/autrefois/macrumors/ipodbeatles.m4a).
Sure, it should be "an iPod", but it's amazing enough the Beatles knew back in 1964 that the iPod would exist, we don't need to quibble over their grammar here. So expect a Beatles and Apple Computer partnership soon, with a clear possibility of a Beatles iPod -- you wanted the Beatles on iTunes, well now ya have a iPod!
For any naysayers out there, listen to the song clips yourself on the links above or use your own copy (for example, once you download it from iTunes in the near future!). Heh, my roommate tells me he's got a family friend where the husband and wife have figured out a good compromise (only works if both sides are actually decent with money ;) ).
If either buys an expensive purchase, the other side gets to also buy something of equivalent value. Apparently it keeps them in check about overspending cause they realize it will cost their household twice the amount of money and it stays fair cause both sides get to enjoy a purchase of their own.
Anyways, to the people making jokes about the wife being over controlling, projecting much? Other than the wife saying no, we have no idea why she said no. It could be they are on a tight budget (and the husband tends to be a little too impulsive with his spending). Or that they discussed it and realized they could use the money better elsewhere.
And just cause she said no doesn't mean he hasn't told her no on some of her purchases either... One of her arguements could be, "I wasn't able to get this cause we're trying to save for this and yet you got that?".
You don't know the whole story and it amazes me how people immediately assume the wife is just some controlling witch and that the guy is just some poor schmuck at the whim of his wife. Maybe his wife is having to put up with having a tight budget and a husband who doesn't know how to conserve money when needed. Maybe they even both discussed it and both came to the conclusion that he didn't need it and just for humor value he joked to the clerk when returning it, "Wife said no." (Maybe he was just embarrassed to be returning it so joked that to not look so bad himself, it was her fault obviously. Maybe she was there and didn't even mind him blaming her jokingly).

Working in a retail shop (photo goods); I can say that margins on hard goods is so razor thin, requiring ad-ons makes sense. It also keeps scalpers away for the likes of the iPad 2.
Thats fine and good - my only point was that I couldn't believe Apple was allowing this. They are very protective of their image and allowing Radio Shack to REQUIRE applecare and a case probably won't sit well with customers. This is why I think it is store managers or maybe regional managers pushing this? I would have to say I would really be surprised if Apple knew this and allowed it. I mean it's not like Apple needs Radio Shack here. It's more the other way around.

Certainly a lot of applications for the iphone could be moved to a web front end, however the applications would be far less sophisticated and would run much slower.
The choice of letting everyone run wild and do whatever the hell they want with the phones is a bad choice. Just look at all the wankers down in Australia who were too lazy to change ssh passwords on their phones and got pwnd by a worm.
If you want to do whatever the heck you want then run a jailbroken phone and take all of the risks.
I do think that Apple needs to work harder on App approval, and I believe the best thing for them to do is have a gold certification level for developers who are trusted. Those developers would be allowed to make as many changes to their applications as they wanted without any interference or approval from apple.
No one is saying that they want to do whatever the heck they want. The developers are saying they want to distribute their applications themselves without Apple having to Approve them. Sure, you can distribute applications on the store. It's a great thing. But you should ALSO have the choice to download an application from the internet from a companies website.

for all those people talking about the updates, your monthly data cap and overages... I'm pretty darn sure the Over-the-Air updates would be free and not count against your monthly cap...
probably why they are in talks with verizon.... because otherwise why would verizon care they would be all gun ho for it cause they would get a ton of extra overage money...

Wow "late 2009" was soooo long ago. I barely remember what the world back then.
Point being: it's a great product, the only one that can have a huge drive. I am seriously considering one since I can't fit the music & podcasts I want on my iPhone plus have enough room left over for recording videos and taking pictures.
