this might be sweet if i could buy my text books in an e- format (though i'd probably load them into my MB before i would load them onto my ipod). but as it stands (with no option but to cause severe back problems for myself later in life), i'm really not interested in trying to read my ipod.

i want to LISTEN to MUSIC on it.

sheesh. first movies, now books? apple is trying to take over the world! :p ;)

Well, those were certainly two VERY informative and insightful posts. Thank you for adding them to the thread.

On a more ON TOPIC note, I had a pretty awesome moment last night in a game of Invasion. It was tied 2-2, but if we could cap the Data Core, we would win. My teammate and I went back and grabbed the Falcon, and proceeded to just TEAR IT UP!!! We were down a man after someone quit, but even then, we managed to win. It was a pretty awesome finish. I made a film clip of it....

It wouldn't come out for about a year. So the 3D tech will be better.

Remember when people were speculating about Apple's tablet with stylus and that stuff? No stylus and everyone loves the ipad.

Apple doesn't put out half-a** devices that are not user friendly. If they are indeed doing 3D on the next iPad, then I am pretty sure they would do it right. Apple has a history of taking stuff that other companies sorta got right and making it Apple-glorified and exceed expectations. Look at touch tech since the 90s. No one could get it right. Apple did.

If there's going to be a preview release at WWDC, does that not mean that we could seeing a full release very soon? As in, later this year?

I see them thinking that the iPod line should definitely move to a 100% touch-screen interface. However, like many people have already said, sometimes you just want a music player. I love having my entire music collection in my bag at any time with the Classic. They should keep it until they can truly beef up the capacity for the the Touch.

I do some third-party writing for Sony. I'm so sick of writing about how beautiful and elegantly designed their products are. They aren't. They always look like what a 5-year-old would draw if you told him to imagine product X. Oh, and we'll put a cool blue light here! ...and a neat racing stripe here! ... and a really cool airfoil (who care's if it's a notebook computer?) here!

Tacky, gaudy. Ugh. Their desktop VAIO makes me want to puke.

In any case, an Apple eBook reader would probably be done right, but as it's been said in this thread, there has to be a BIG, non-glare screen in order for it to be of any use.

Gutted.. the Facebook app since the 3.0 update has really been looking good, and I'd love to see Hewitt evolve it even more.

Think Phil Schiller should send him an email just to thank him for developing so gracefully for the iPhone, explain the review process and reasoning behind it and then just wish him well in the future.

This is a PR blow, and Phil will have to do something or this could be damaging to the platform's future development.

    419.9 mb on my 32GB 3GS

    D.

    419.9MB for me with 16GB 3Gs.

Different builds depending on device? Someone with multiple devices might be able to confirm that (if they have to download different builds, or possibly, if your iTunes manages multiple devices, that accounts for bigger downloads that accommodate multiple devices instead of just one).

    Wirelessly posted (iphone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Apple restricts use of technologies required by products like Flash Player. Until Apple eliminates these restrictions, Adobe cannot provide Flash Player for the iPhone or iPod Touch.

People don't care about Flash Player itself, they just want the ability to play video in the browser, which the iPhone is perfectly capable of doing. So instead of lobbying Apple for Flash support we should be lobbying web developers for video tag support.

I support this idea. I believe this is the same way Apple looks at it.

I just finished it the other day, on heroic, and I really enjoyed it. Im in the minority of people who don't like Halo multiplayer other than the occasional match but the single player was fun and i like the epic story arc. At the end of the game it kind of made me want to play the original Halo.

Has anyone beat it on legendary? Is there a different ending?

Switched to macs back in 2001 and while I love the OS I have had a continuous stream of hardware problems with all apple products I have bought:

iBook G3: logic board died and replaced 3 times

iMac G5: CPU got so hot the machine almost melted! So far I have had the logic board replaced 3 times.

MacBook: Random shutdown syndrome, faulty mouse and track pad, palm rest discoloration. Currently in for repair again!

iPod: hard disk and battery both died

EDIT: and don't get me started about the abomination that is the so called mighty mouse. The thing barely lasted a week!

Apple have really got to get there quality control sorted out. So what if the OS is great if the continual hardware faults mean you can't actually use the damn thing!

    One cheesed off mac user.
Your experience is clearly not representative. My family and I have had 9 Macs, and no hardware problems ever. And large surveys, including those by PC Magazine and Consumer Reports, have shown that Apple desktops require significantly fewer repairs than any other brand out there.

Either you are trolling, or you are the most unlucky Mac user I have ever heard of...

Well.. I called AppleCare and they sent me a box.. The same time the lady told me to update to the new 1.1 Firmware and see if there would be a difference. She said that she would in fact send the box anyway and if the FMC didn't fix it then I needed to ship in.

My MacBook worked great until one day it crashed. AppleCare said it replaced a harddrive when I got it back. That evening... that VERY evening RSS started. What a crock. Never before, but after apple touches it it starts this garbage.

I am writing a dissertation. I am writing a dissertation that needs my portability of a laptop to be successful because of the amount of travel involved in gathering data.

What am I to do??? Well.. I updated the Firmware today. I upgraded everything that Software update had me do and then I put the new firmware on there.. *** Forgot to say that currently I am running at 46deg C. That seems pretty good. The bottom of the computer I don't think that you could cook eggs on like you could have a few weeks ago. something must be working.

So far so good. I have a blank box that I hope that I don't have to send to Apple as my dissertation is on it : ) (don't worry.. i have other copies) Maybe no more RSS this weekend and I will not put my computer in the box. We will see want we?!?!

Hmm.. Saw a good Dell price today.. thinking maybe I should buy one for just my dissertation as it could be more reliable than my current setup.

    thoughts?

Thats a good point! I know Jacko had out bid McCartney on the rights to the Beatles songs but i too wonder who owns them now?
Michael Jackson bought ATV, which owns the Beatles catalog, in 1985, and 10 years later, merged with Sony, creating Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Jackson and Sony co-owned the Beatles catalog. Following Jackson's death, Sony/ATV keeps control of the Beatles' songs.
Plus (i could be wrong) Simon "Money Whore" Cowell has his fingers in Sony who co-own the rights to The Beatles catalogue!?
Simon Cowell has nothing whatsoever to do with the Beatles catalog. He's involved with Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment, which are separate and distinct companies from Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which owns the catalog.
    Don't quote me on that.
Too late! I already did! :D

TechCrunch has posted another lengthy report (http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/28/apples-big-fall/) detailing what it is hearing about Apple's plans for the fifth-generation iPhone and iOS 5, now both rumored for release closer to a "fall" timeframe than the traditional June/July timeframe seen in past years.

Perhaps the most notable information comes at the end of the article, revealing that sources have said that Apple's April 2010 acquisition (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/28/apple-purchases-iphone-personal-assistant-company-siri/) of personal assistant software company Siri is set to bear fruit in the form of "deeply integrated" artificial intelligence (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/01/steve-jobs-on-siri-acquired-for-artificial-intelligence-technology-not-search/) and voice control for iOS 5, a change that could potentially transform the way iOS devices are used.A year ago, Apple bought Siri, a virtual personal assistant startup that had released a very cool iPhone app. The Siri team and technology are now said to be a big part of iOS 5.

The use of Siri's artificial intelligence and assistance technology is said to be deeply integrated into the OS for all the different services offered. And the team is now putting the finishing touches on the elements that will be demoed at WWDC, we hear. This tech may also be opened to developers for use in third-party apps - though that information isn't quite as concrete. The report also notes that a fall release for new iPhone hardware provides Apple with additional time to incorporate LTE 4G capabilities, speculating that a desire to add LTE may even be the reason for the shift in release schedule compared to past years.TechCrunch contributor Steve Cheney (who nailed the timing of the Verizon iPhone last year), believes that a fall iPhone 5 launch makes LTE much more likely. He currently puts the odds at zero to ten percent for LTE if the iPhone 5 launched this summer (again, not happening), 50 percent if it comes in the fall, and 100 percent if it comes in January.

A fall timeframe would give Apple a more vetted and lower power Qualcomm chip for LTE, Cheney says. When the Verizon iPhone was unveiled in January, Apple COO Tim Cook addressed the LTE issue directly. "The first generation LTE chipsets force some design compromises. Some of which we would not make," he said. If Cheney is right, that may not be such an issue later this year. The report notes that Apple waited to adopt 3G technology until is had significantly matured, opting to release the original iPhone as an EDGE-only device despite relatively widespread 3G coverage available at the time. But at that time the iPhone was a completely new concept for smartphones setting the stage to remake the industry regardless of whether it was an EDGE or 3G device. In the much larger and much more competitive smartphone market today, Android devices are already moving to LTE and Apple may not wish to wait until mid-2012 to introduce its own LTE iPhone.
