Now I'm two updates behind on my iPhone, because I'm still waiting for the 4.3 Jailbreak. Oh well. Nothing too important in this update. I also won't be updating my iPad, because the jailbreak for 4.3 hasn't been released yet either.

After many beautiful years together, the time has finally come to part ways with my PowerBook. I've put her through some tough times, especially during university and now the power lead is cracked, the screen latch it broken so she doesn't go to sleep, the graphics card is fried so there are weird lines and artifacts on the screen, the palm rest looks like I took an angle grinder to it and its not attached to the case properly, the 3rd party battery is rubbish the button doesn't click properly.
I've been saving up like crazy for a new MBP with planned after sales upgrades etc, and I'm going crazy here!

Well, the keynote had me there for a second with the whole “52% smaller” thing ;) but now that it has been clarified, I still think this is a solid update for the nanos – lower prices, higher capacities, more colors, 24 hour battery life – it’s all good. :cool:

It took months to get our IT dept to order CS5 in (turned up last week...asked them to order it in November) and now I'm gonna have to get them to investigate arranging a free updgrade!?

I have a 12" PowerBook and when I saw the new 13" MacBook, there is no comparison, Why are people waiting for a 12" ? Have you even seen the 13"?

I applaud you. I would have done the same until they added the "convert higher bit rate to 128" option to the iPhone. Now, I can have 5200 songs on my iPhone 32GB, which is roughly half my iTunes library, with enough space for app, photos, and video. I see no reason to carry around two devices when one does everything I need, plus all the guilty pleasures of the web.

Apple will never make a laptop that is that size because it would mean that they would have to take out the optical drive and make the computer ultimately worthless without a docking station. Apple will never make a computer that isn't fully capable from the start.
Oh come on. How often do we actually have to access our optical drives? While you may do so often, many of us almost never do and would be happy to attach an external drive every now and then or even access the disc we need over the network.
The 2 lb Sonys and Panasonics are fully capable. For many of us, that is exactly what we want, and your assertion that such a machine is not 'fully capable' may be true for you and others, but for many of us, your assertion that this is 'true' is rubbish.

Frankly I don't know if Bluetooth would solve the wire problem. But your point is well taken a wireless drive would have its own advantages. Something would be needed of course as I'm not dismissing the need for an optical drive from time to time. My big problem with optical hardware is that it increases weight and decreases reliability.
One obvious answer would be a mini Wifi server of one or more CDROM's. That sort of arrangement would certainly have the bandwidth needed. In either case you are making use of radio technology so that in and of itself is a power issue. On the other hand if the drive isn't in the laptop it can never be a power burden.
In any event I still believe that Apple would be better off putting Compact Flash or other memory device slots in its machines. They are already a better choice than CDROM's for many uses and of special interest to photographers and other professionals. The goal should be reliable low power operation.

So we are not able to use that new cover art view when streaming over your home network I guess...tried it and the option is grayed out....oh well.

Currently the Mac App Store has no way of offering an upgrade to existing Mac software. I don't see that changing.
I suspect that all these apps will be stripped of their sample media. They're all quite small without them. Perhaps Apple will sell those files separately on their own on DVDs?

Here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the FTC and DOJ yesterday (by way of copy from an e-mail to David Porter, the offending Wal-Mart executive). I urge everyone to do something similar:

As reported in a wide variety of sources, you have been meeting with the heads of large movie studios and threatening to purchase fewer or return product from those studios that agree to distribute movies over Apple iTunes service (see, e.g., http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/09/22/wal.mart.threatens.studios/). This is an egregious restraint of trade that severely effects interstate commerce. News reports indicate that you have already "punished" Disney by returning thousands of DVDs and refusing to sell them. Because Wal-Mart sells 40% of the physical DVDs in the United States, you are in a privileged position and are abusing your market power. You are seeking to obtain concessions to sell content at Apple's prices (which does not include the manufacture, shipment, and sale of a physical item). Apple has innovated - something WalMart is incapable of -- and WalMart now wants to take advantage of Apple's innovation.
I urge the FTC and the DOJ to open criminal investigations into your behavior. In addition, your conduct violates your own "Corporate Code of Ethics," making a mockery of your supposed corporate values.

(English is far and away the most common second language, and many English speakers live in cultures where second-language learning is effectively deprecated, such as the US). However, the difference between English and Chinese is less than 10% for first and second language speakers. (It's even more complicated than that, as the definition of "Chinese" is really more a political matter than a linguistic one; in Europe, the various Chinese "dialects" would be considered separate languages, but they are joined together by a common writing system.)

Eh. He's replaceable. With any one of a massive raft of iPhone devs who would be more than eager to step in to replace him. Facebook doesn't really have much of a choice about developing for iPhone considering it's (iPhone) the rising star in the smartphone market, that people are clamoring for and waiting sometimes 8 weeks to buy one. If there is no Facebook app for iPhone, owners will go pounding on Facebook's door, not Apple's.
Still he's obviously entitled to do what he wants, career-wise. I just don't think it will be the big dramatic gesture he thinks it is. (What's his name?)

Only on an Apple forum, when new features are raised as possibilities, does a sizeable minority of posts involve griping about "Why would you want to do that?!" or "What kind of stupid feature is that?"
I don't see what's so hard to accept that some times, in some instances, some people might find use of over-the-air updates. Given that Apple always releases new iOS updates at 1pm during weekdays, when the vast majority of us are at work, I can easily invision scenarios where there's a cool new feature in a point update that everyone wants to give a spin. Why not start the download at work so it's ready to test drive before you leave the office?
And, to all those citing bandwidth constraints as curtailing this behavior: Verizon users have no such constraints.
