Don’t Tick Off The Shaq: ROUND TWO!!

So, it seems that people were totally paying attention when Shaq decided that his version of freestyle had nothing to do with Shazam and had a lot to do with laying into Kobe Bryant. Turns out that just after finding out about his little anti-Kobe speech, a sheriff of Arizona wanted O’Neal’s reserve sheriff badge and he wanted it NOW.
Here’s the hilarious part, though. It didn’t take more than a few minutes before the Miami Beach Police, specifically, the Chief of Police, Mr. Carlos Noriega flat out stated that Shaq was in “good standing” with the police department and that they thought he was a very valuable asset to their organization.
So it seems that since he’s also serving as a reserve officer for Los Angeles Port Authority don’t really care either, because they didn’t tell us anything.
Either way, it’s kind of interesting that Shaq can get away with saying whatever the heck he wants, then not lose his badge, and then just Tuesday passed reporters while saying “I love you, Kobe!”
Ooookay. You have got, like, emotions like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. Seriously. We need to level you out or something because this gets a little weird sometimes.
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O\'Neal

Wham! May not Happen

So, I don’t know if you knew about this, but apparently, there have been talks about a movie based on the popular 1980s group Wham! Yup. Wham! As in George Michael’s career starter boy band that made the song “Wake me Up before you Go-Go” stick in everyone’s heads for weeks. Unfortunately, though, it looks like if you were hoping for this film, which their former manager Simon Napier-Bell was in talks to work out a $100 million deal for a biopic about the band, but it seems like it may or may not happen now, because George Michael himself has said “NO.”
George Michael on Wham fantastic

As can be expected when there’s about to be a biopic about, y’know, YOU, George Michael wants to be able to look at every script that’s going to be presented and be able to veto them if need be. This might present a problem, though, as Napier-Bell seems to want to keep a very tight leash on his new pet project, and the idea of Michael coming in on “his” territory is setting sparks off in the cinema world. As it stands, if Michael doesn’t like the script, he wants to be able to completely scrap the film, which Napier-Bell certainly doesn’t want, so at the moment, the fate of the Wham! biopic is currently hanging by a very small thread.

SAG Awards 2011: White Hot Trend

Natalie Portman
Celebrities looked stunning in the white hot gown trends of the night.
Natalie Portman once again opted for a strapless gown showing off her belly bump in Azzaro.
Eva Longoria chose a Grecian-inspired Georges Hobeika showing off her toned physique.
Lea Michele shimmered in a body skimming Oscar de la Renta, a refreshing change from her usual bigger skirted style.
Amy Adams kept it sleek in Herve’ Leroux.
We were frightened by Winona Ryder’s obnoxious layered and tulle confection. She definitely has room for improvement.

Lindsay Gets Slammed In Court! Slapped With SCRAM Bracelet, To Undergo Random Drug Testing!

lindsay-lohan_1.jpg
She was NOT messing around!
Lindsay Lohan
FINALLY made her long-anticipated appearance this morning in court, only to be the recipient of one monster smackdown from Judge Marsha Revel! In the relatively quick hearing, Revel told the wacktress that she was required to attend one alcohol education course a week, wear a SCRAM bracelet, refrain from drinking alcohol and undergo random drug testing!
Lindsay’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, attempted to get girl out of having to wear the bracelet, citing that it would interfere with her upcoming movie role, but Revel - who must have quite the sense of humor - said that unless they wanted her to spout off the thirty minute list of reasons the SCRAM bracelet was needed, then they needed to shut up and take the conditions she had set!

Random Oscar Bust

Well the Oscars sucked...

but more importantly, my Oscar pool drawings netted me exactly $1. Boo Oscars!

(from HolywoodReporter)
Was it a bad idea to have actors host? No, it was spectacularly bad.
In what could go down as one of the worst Oscar telecasts in history, a bad and risky idea -- letting two actors host -- played out in spectacularly unwatchable fashion on the biggest of all nights for the film world. Despite an overall rewarding of brilliant performances and no truly shocking didn't-see-that-coming upsets, the 83rd Annual Academy Awards will likely be remembered as the night James Franco couldn't act like a host. It was not a great night to be on the Internet if you were one of Franco's trusted advisers, as the likable, quirky actor was torched on Twitter and pimp-slapped across the web for his lifeless performance. He had no business agreeing to host the Oscars, and his resulting pratfall in front of -- what, a billion people? -- must have made David Letterman gleeful, as his stint will no longer be pointed out as some kind of nadir. Anne Hathaway at least tried to sing and dance and preen along to the goings on, but Franco seemed distant, uninterested and content to keep his Cheshire-cat-meets-smug smile on display throughout.

Susan Sarandon's a weirdo

Susan's wearing a teeth bracelet that was designed by one of her friends? What is he, a witch doctor? Sure, some people wear necklaces made with a shark's tooth, but not teeth from their own progeny. The only way this story of wearing the teeth of her children could have been any more nauseating is if her kids were actually British.

You know what the only difference between insanity and eccentricity is? Net worth. If you're rich and do crazy shit, you're eccentric. If you're poor and do crazy shit, you're insane.

The King's Speech (2010)

Title: The King’s Speech (2010)

Director: Tom Hooper

Cast: Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce

Review:

The King’s Speech was the big winner on Oscar night 2011. It won four Academy Awards: Best Actor (Colin Firth) Best Original Screenplay (David Seidler), Best Director (Tom Hooper) and Best Film of the Year. I thought it deserved the awards that it got, because it is a good film, with excellent performances and a well written screenplay. Personally, I was rooting for Darren Aronofsky to win the Oscar for Best Director for Black Swan, but whatever, as it turns out The King’s Speech was the big winner of the night. You know how The Academy loves an inspirational film with characters conquering their fears and achieving their goals. Black Swan was probably too dark a movie for The Academy, who we all know likes their winning films to be happy, shinny and up lifting. The King’s Speech certainly fits those prerequisites.

The King’s Speech is a film that focuses on the pressures and stress that fall upon a political figure. You and I (read: the common man) can’t really grasp what it means to suddenly become such an important political figure for a whole nation, so the movie does a wonderful job of doing it for us. It’s interesting to note that King George VI (played by Colin Firth) became king only when his brother, King Edward VIII (played by Guy Pearce) renounced the thrown. When King Edward VIII inherits the throne, moments after his fathers death, the first thing he does is burst into uncontrollable crying. At first we think he is crying over his fathers death, but it soon becomes clear that he is crying because he doesn’t want all the responsibility that comes with the title. Apparently, all King Edward VIII wanted to do was have a good time through life, partying, falling in love, he didn’t care about being a King, which is why after a short tenor as the King of England, King Edward VIII renounces the thrown and hands it over to his brother King George VI. Problem is, King George VI has a speech impediment, he stammers and the stammering gets worse when he has to addresses the nation. Enter Geoffrey Rush, speech therapist, to help him with his problem.

The most interesting aspect for me about this film was how The King of England has to come down from his royal palace to meet with a common man to help him out of his dilemma. Geoffrey Rush’s character Lionel Logue isn’t a high class aristocrat, nope; he is just a common man who is good at what he does. He doesn’t even have a degree! Yet here he is; the kings’ last hope. The film constantly questions the seat of power; it literally tries to bring the high and mighty King, the ultimate representation of political power, down to a more human level. Lionel Logue constantly tries to humanize The King, begging for him to come off his high horse. I think the movie quite cleverly squeezes these themes in the film, sort of reminding governments, hey, you know, you wouldn’t be up there if it wasn’t for the help of the common man, the poor guy who has a family to feed and does an honest days work. And I really liked that about the film. It’s the king actually listening, spending time, and thanking the commoner for his services. I liked that idea, because it’s something that those in power sometimes forget: that the governed are real people, with real situations, they aren’t just statistics. So kudos to the movie for that.

It also questions the power that a political figure actually has. I mean, just how powerful is a King or a President of a nation? In certain cases, and this holds true for the United States as well, the King or the President is just a symbolic figure, the big honchos making the decisions are really back stage, while the king or president is just there to talk to the people. One scene has the King saying: “If I am King, then where is my power? Can I declare war? Form a government? Levy a tax? No! And yet I am the seat of all authority because the people think that when I speak, I speak for them” There is another scene where Lionel sits in this royal chair where only kings and queens have sat in. The king gets his panties all up in a bunch over this telling Lionel to get off the chair, that he is trivializing everything. Lionel tells the king: “I don’t care how many Royal assholes have sat on this chair, its just a chair.” I liked this aspect of the film because sometimes people tend to deify political figures and forget that they are just humans, with fears and limitations, same as you or I.

I enjoyed the film mainly because it’s a film that begs governments to show a thread of humanity with its ‘loyal subjects’. It bets for governments to treat their subjects, however common they maybe, with the dignity and respect they deserve. Because who knows, maybe one day they might need us for something. It’s a movie that gives value to the common man as an important part of society. I loved the performances; Geoffrey Rush plays such an adorable, goofy and candid character. I love it how he confronts the king, brings him down to a more human level. Colin Firth starts out as a stubborn guy who hates himself and his stammering, a guy who is filled with anger. He slowly, with the help of Lionel, learns to deal with his anger, conquer his speech impediment and finally addresses the nation in the proper way. It’s the reason why the film won four Oscars, it’s an uplifting tale, where a man goes through this whole evolution, and conquers his fears. In the process, he learns a thing or two about humility, sympathy for others and true friendship.

Speaking of conquering ones fears and all that, the screenwriter for The King’s Speech, David Seidler also stammered when he was a child, and King George’s story motivated him to over come it, so the film has a bit of authenticity to it when it comes to the whole psychological process of overcoming a speech impediment. Another Interesting thing about David Seidler is that up to this point he had been working mostly on writing straight to dvd and television films like the David Carradine vehicles Kung Fu Killer (2008) and Son of the Dragon (2006). His only brushes with theatrical releases were his scripts for Tucker a Man and His Dream (1988) and an animated feature film called Quest for Camelot (1998). He’d always wanted to write a film about King George VIII, so he started working on the screenplay which he’d always had in the back of his head. Low and behold, years down the line he ends up winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and the film itself is the big winner of the night! Seidler isn’t exactly a young pup (he’s well into his seventies) yet here he is in his Golden Years, winning an Academy Award. When he received the award he said “My father always told me I’d be a late bloomer!” He gave a great acceptance speech at the Oscars, without a bit of stammering to be heard! Hooray for late bloomers!

The Oscars!

My favorite day of the year has come and gone, but at least I get to recap last night's Academy Awards with my favorite blog pals.

First of all, I would like to say that after 6 years of hosting an Oscar pool, I FINALLY WON! Whoop! Thanks to Tom Hooper taking home Best Director I was able to barely squeeze by the competition!

Second, for the first time (maybe ever) I am pumped about the winners. I thought everyone was so deserving of their awards and it made for a very pleasant evening.

As for the overall show itself, I thought it was awkward. I was so excited about James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosting and I thought they did a mediocre job. I don't know if he was nervous or high but James seemed really out of it. Anne made a desperate attempt for his lack of enthusiasm and spent most of the night awkwardly laughing. I thought Anne's musical number was SUPER awkward and not funny and the whole thing just seemed desperate. The Academy needs to go back to it's roots and have a comedian host, someone who is used to doing live comedy, because this "more youthful" show was underwhelming.

Finally, the FUN part.....the fashion! Again, I was kind of underwhelmed. Overall, I thought the red carpet was pretty boring. There wasn't anything that was jaw-droppingly gorgeous or jaw-droppingly hideous, well except Helena Bonham-Carter but that's what we expect from her.

For me, the worst dressed were Jennifer Hudson, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon (I know, I know) and Mila Kunis.

This enormous bright orange dress is just eating Jennifer! She is so skinny now, I would have loved to see her in something with a mermaid shape. Plus, her boobs looked disgusting.

I hate her and I hate this dress. Scarlett looked like a bad tablecloth. I thought her hair was way too casual and not nearly glam enough for the Academy Awards, especially as a presenter!

Reese Witherspoon is one of my all-time favorite Hollywood ladies and I love her style, but I thought last night she was boring! I feel like this dress is overdone, maybe it's because I have a friend who used this exact style (color and everything) as bridesmaid dresses a few years ago. I liked her hair and earrings but not with this dress, I thought the hair was too modern with such a plain dress. Sorry Reese! I still love you!

I love Mila Kunis. I think she is drop dead gorgeous but she has an edge to her, which I love! I appreciate that she was trying to soften up her look for the Oscars, but I didn't like it. I love the color of the dress but the style is awful, those boob doilys look like weird tattoos and it just doesn't work. I also HATED her make-up. She is so stunning with the smokey look, because that's her style. She just didn't look like Mila.

For my best dressed I am choosing Amy Adams, Natalie Portman and Halle Berry.

I loved Amy's dress. The color is PERFECT for her skin and hair color, it's flattering and modest but still glam and it fit her perfectly! I wasn't the biggest fan of the green jewelery but I love her hair and make-up! She was the definition of a glamorous movie star!

It can't be easy being super preggers for the biggest night of your life, but Natalie Portman looked AMAZING! Her dress was classic and beautiful, appropriate for her belly, and I loved the color. I love that she mixed it up with the unique earrings and I loved the side hair. She looked incredible and I am so, so, so, so, so glad she won! I just adore her and Black Swan was ridiculous.

Halle Berry is my Best Dressed winner. I loved her dress and I felt like she was the only one who really pushed the limits. The gold is beautiful with her coloring and her body is incredible. I love, love, love the bottom of the dress! It's so whimsical and glamorous at the same time. The only I wish she would have done differently is the earrings. I think some big diamond drop earrings would have taken this to the next level. Her hair is so short, so I think it needed just a little more WOW!

So what did you think of last night's show? Who are your best and worst dressed of the night?
