Hyundai has released the first official details on what will be under the hood of the all-new 2012 Azera/Grandeur, scheduled to go on sale in South Korea in January.
Korean and North American specs detailed after the jump.
The Korean-market Grandeur will be available in three powertrain configurations including an LPI (liquified petroleum injected) model. The 2.7L Mu V6 in the current Grandeur will be replaced by an all-new 3.0L GDI (gasoline direct injected) V6 engine with an output of 263 horsepower and 225 lb.ft of torque. In addition, the new Grandeur will also be available with a smaller four-cylinder 2.4L GDI engine that produces 200 horsepower and 184 lb. ft of torque. The LPI powertrain is upgraded to an all-new 3.0L unit that churns out 230 horsepower and 205 lb. ft of torque. All three engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The North American Azera will be powered by a 3.3L V6 unit with an output of 286 horsepower and 255 lb. ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, this powerplant is not direct-injected which gives insight to the power potential of the 3.3L V6 engine with such technology.
Hyundai also stated in its release that the new Grandeur will be the first South Korean vehicle to be available with Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC). This system not only adjusts vehicle speed to maintain consistent distance from a vehicle ahead, but also automatically engages the brakes to a full stop in response to a vehicle ahead abruptly stopping.
Hyundai will commence production of the all-new Azera/Grandeur on the 15th of December at the company's Asan plant in South Korea. Sales will begin on the 13th of January following a launch ceremony in Seoul.
