Random The Edge

I LOVE the movie The Edge...

People love to talk about movies they always stay on while flipping through channels; mine is definitely The Edge. I've seen it a million times and it never gets old. The Anthony Hopkins character might be the biggest badass ever... Especially in this scene...

"What one man can do, another can do!"

(from Wiki)
The Edge is a 1997 film drama directed by Lee Tamahori, starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Harold Perrineau and Elle Macpherson co-star. L. Q. Jones also has a supporting role as an innkeeper. Bart the Bear, a trained Kodiak Bear known for appearances in several Hollywood movies, appears as a vicious grizzly; this was one of his last film roles. The film was written by David Mamet, and despite the unusual setting it touches upon many themes common to Mamet's other works including, the bonding of strong male characters, tough posturings and playful surprises. The story explores, through action and intricate dialog, the survival instincts of these men in terms of their competition with each other and with their environment. READ MORE

Shaquille O'Neal eager for next chapter
Shaquille O'Neal walked up the stairs to the makeshift stage in his home gymnasium, pulled out a few index cards with some notes and said the words he never thought were coming. Good-bye. O'Neal, 39, made his retirement official Friday, reiterating what he revealed in a video posted online two days earlier that his NBA playing days are over. Saying those words made his pro career full-circle, since it all ended at his home in a suburb of Orlando, the city where his pro days began when the Magic made him the No. 1 pick in 1992. "Never thought this day would come," O'Neal said. "Father Time has finally caught up with Shaquille O'Neal." He insisted he will not return, either, nor will he coach anyone but his three sons. His career ends with 28,596 points, 13,099 rebounds, 15 All-Star selections, four championships and three NBA Finals MVP awards.

Random Macho Man

Macho Man Randy Savage probably did a lot of drugs...

(from CBSNews)
"Macho Man" Randy Savage dies in car accident
Professional wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage has died. He was 58. The wrestling legend died in a car accident on Friday in Tampa, Fla. His brother, Lanny Poffo, told TMZ that Savage suffered a heart attack while driving and lost control of his car. Florida Highway Patrol said that the wrestler's 2009 Jeep Wrangler veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic and "collided head-on with a tree." The wrestler was transported to Largo Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, according to the report. Savage's wife, Lynn, was a passenger in the car during the accident but survived with minor injuries and was taken to a different local hospital for treatment, TMZ reports. Random Beard Shaving

Will Ferrell must be sneaking into my brain...

Two nights ago (while watching Keira Knightley on the Daily Show) I thought about how boring it is that celebs make appearances on talk shows to promote their new projects. It's clearly the whole point of the show, but I feel like I'm being mocked on some level when I have to sit thru some boring ass staged interview with pre-answered questions... At this point, I give the guest more credit when they don't focus on promoting themselves... enter Will Ferrell.

Glad to see Conan is a cool guy when the camera turns off too...

Random Baseball Bat

Will Ferrell's new movie is about bat fucking?...

In case none of that made any sense...

(from Gothamist)
Video: Gloria Allred's Bizarre Gay-Sex-With-Baseball-Bat Press Conference
Last week, Roger McDowell, former pitcher on the World Champion '86 Mets team, allegedly unloaded a series of homophobic slurs at three baseball fans, then threatened a father, in front of his two daughters, in a graphic manner. McDowell, the current pitching coach for the Atlanta Braves, apologized for the incident, but it wasn't enough for father Justin Quinn, who hired Gloria Allred to represent him. They wanted a harsher punishment for him, so they staged a surreal press conference to publicly shame McDowell and reenact the events—and as you can watch below, there is something very, very weird about repeatedly simulating anal sex with a baseball bat in front of two nine-year-olds. Random Freaks And Geeks

I was very skeptical of Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino)'s music at first ...

But this beat is A+mazing and "Yeah, this beat is a disaster... 9/11 this track" (too soon? nah)

(from Wiki)
Donald Glover DJs and produces his own music under the moniker 'mcDJ.' His music is of the electronic/remix variety and is often made available for free download via his official site. His current album releases include Love Letter in an Unbreakable Bottle and Utterances of the Heart. As a side project Glover raps as Childish Gambino[12], a name he found from a Wu-Tang Clan name generator. He released an album entitled "Sick Boi" on June 5, 2008, in which he thanks himself. On September 17, 2009, 'Childish Gambino' released the album Poindexter. A pair of mixtapes entitled I Am Just A Rapper, and I Am Just A Rapper 2 were released in close succession in early 2010. The track listings for his albums on I AM JUST A RAPPER and I AM JUST A RAPPER 2 consist of the name of the song "he" raps, followed by the song he raps over. His latest and third album, Culdesac, was set to be released on July 2, 2010, but a couple of last minute additions caused the album to be delayed for a day. The album was made available on July 3. Glover has stated in interviews that on "Sick Boi" and "Poindexter" he felt he had to hide behind gimmicks, such as pink hoodies. But with his subsequent projects, he has touched on more personal subject matter, including family, schoolyard bullying, troubled romantic relationships, suicidal thoughts and alcoholism. He has disowned his 2002 album, The Younger I Get, as the too-raw ramblings of what he calls a "decrepit Drake." READ MORE

Random Verizon Guy

Truly the end of an era...

I never really thought of the Verizon "Can you hear me now?" Guy as a real person until now. Makes you think about these silly tv people.

(from Yahoo)
Verizon Phases Out 'Can You Hear Me Now?' Guy
You won't hear him now. Verizon Wireless is taking its famous cell phone commercials -- featuring actor Paul Marcarelli uttering the phrase, "Can you hear me now?" -- in a new direction. In a new profile in The Atlantic, Marcarelli says he was informed of the change via email last September. "Don't feel bad for me, but I'm definitely glad that chapter is over," he said. "Most people my age are now trying to trade in their street cred for money, and I kind of made my money." Marcarelli landed the role of Test Man nine years ago. At first, he says he was embarrassed. "The reality was, it was a job," he says. His contract obligated him to appear in 20-40 spots a year commercials -- in addition to numerous live events (including appearing in front of 85,000 football fans during the halftime show of the Buffalo Bills' 2002 season opener).

Colbert Ridicules Sen. Kyl's Hyperbole About Planned Parenthood's Abortions (VIDEO)
Stephen Colbert had some fun with Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) Monday night over Kyl's argument that his hyperbolic claim about Planned Parenthood was never intended to be taken as fact. In the heated budget debate last week, Kyl erroneously claimed on the Senate floor that 90% of Planned Parenthood's services are abortions; the real number is more like 3%. Rather than admit a mistake, Kyl defended that claim by saying it was, "not intended to be a factual statement." "Kyl just rounded up to the nearest 90," Colbert explained. And as of Tuesday morning, Colbert had taken the ribbing to his twitter account, where he's been frequently posting such non-factual gems as, "Carly Simon wrote that song about Jon Kyl," and, "Jon Kyl calls the underside of his Senate seat: 'The Booger Graveyard.'"
