Andy Pettitte again plays second fiddle in postseason pitching matchup as he faces Cliff Lee in ALCS
In what he considers the first big playoff win of his career, Andy Pettitte was the underdog as he outdueled John Smoltz in Game 5 of the 1996 World Series. Monday night, when the veteran lefthander pitches in what could be one of his last postseason appearances in the Bronx, he is again getting second billing. Pettitte does not care that everyone is buzzing about Cliff Lee starting Game 3 of the ALCS Monday night at the Stadium. He has always been the "other guy,"Pettitte said Sunday at the Stadium. "I feel like there's not a whole lot of attention that I get anyways," he said. "I guess I can say I'm used to that. It's always maybe the other guy that's going to get that." Which is kind of ridiculous, said Nick Swisher. "I don't understand it," Swisher said. "Andy Pettitte, this guy is the leader almost in the postseason in everything. To have a guy like that on the mound, the confidence we have in him, the experience he has, it definitely plays a role. It's crazy. It's funny how people say things." Just look at Pettitte's resume. He has more postseason wins, 19, than any other pitcher in history. He pitched the clinching game of every series in last year's run to the World Series title and he owns five rings. READ MORE
