Description: Katherine Kristen "Katie" Murray, 16, of La Plata was driving on Olivers Shop Road in La Plata at 10:42 pm when she lost control of her Honda as she was rounding a bend, police reported. The passenger car went up a small hill, and its roof struck a tree, said Diane Richardson, spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff's Office. Police said Murray died on the scene. There were no other people in the car. Murray was wearing a seat belt, police said. While the crash is still under investigation, icy roads and speed might be contributing factors, according to Richardson's account and a sheriff's office press release.
