2009 Confederation cup Golden Glove winner Tim Howard was born in North Brunswick, New Jersey to Matthew Howard, an African-American, and Esther Howard, a Caucasian woman born in Hungary. Howard started for the United States national team in the 1999 World Youth Championship in Nigeria and was a backup to Brad Friedel at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
