Nifty ends above 6050; realty, FMCG, metals down

MUMBAI: Benchmarks ended sluggish session in the red as investors booked profits after a sharp rally. Negative cues from European peers also dampened sentiments.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 20153.31 down 107.27 points or 0.53 per cent. The index touched a high of 20351.74 and low of 20088.67.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 6063.30, down 42.30 points or 0.69 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 6121.10 and low of 6041.35.

BSE Midcap Index advanced 0.29 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index climbed 0.34 per cent.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index fell 1.63 per cent, BSE FMCG Index declined 1.41 per cent and BSE Metal Index slipped 1.14 per cent. BSE IT Index gained 1.17 per cent.

TCS (5.45%), Siemens (3.56%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (1.69%), Suzlon Energy (1.44%) and Power Grid (1.18%) were the only Sensex gainers.

Losers pack included Wipro (-4.29%), Axis Bank (-2.84%), Sesa Goa (-2.76%), Jaiprakash Associates (-2.52%) and DLF (-2.46%).

Market breadth was negative on the NSE with 1787 losers as compared to 1500 gainers.
