Derek Jeter heard the detractors during his contract negotiations with the Yankees, wondering if his most recent season could be the beginning of the captain's decline. After inking a three-year, $51 million contract with the Bombers in December, Jeter vowed that he would do his best to quiet all of that discussion. The process began Tuesday, as Jeter started working out at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla. The Associated Press reported that Jeter worked out in a batting cage with hitting coach Kevin Long, a new wrinkle for the 36-year-old Jeter, who is beginning his hitting workload noticeably earlier than in previous seasons.
