GOOGLE looks set to go into battle against social network Facebook — by snapping up massively-popular website Twitter. The US search engine giant is said to be in advanced negotiations to buy the site — which sees users post their thoughts in 140 characters or less — for as much as £500million. Twitter has become one of the Internet's biggest hits over the past few months and has millions of users across the world, many of them defecting from Facebook.
