Random Zombie Apocalypse

Hmm, so people really are taking this whole May 21st thing seriously?...

I mean, that's gotta be why a government organization like the CDC would be focusing on impending zombie attacks, right??!?

(from foxnews) <-- Didn't intentionally go here
CDC Warns Public to Prepare for 'Zombie Apocalypse'
Are you prepared for the impending zombie invasion? That's the question posed by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention in a Monday blog posting gruesomely titled, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse." And while it's no joke, CDC officials say it's all about emergency preparation. "There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for," the posting reads. "Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That's right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency." The post, written by Assistant Surgeon General Ali Khan, instructs readers how to prepare for "flesh-eating zombies" much like how they appeared in Hollywood hits like "Night of the Living Dead" and video games like Resident Evil. Perhaps surprisingly, the same steps you'd take in preparation for an onslaught of ravenous monsters are similar to those suggested in advance of a hurricane or pandemic. READ MORE

Random Pole Battle

Or that's what I'll be calling it since I can't determine what this is actually called...

I'm also a bit confused how the white team can win Pole Battle, since the only inevitable outcome seems to be ripped shirts and blue team domination.

Random Baseball Bat

Will Ferrell's new movie is about bat fucking?...

In case none of that made any sense...

(from Gothamist)
Video: Gloria Allred's Bizarre Gay-Sex-With-Baseball-Bat Press Conference
Last week, Roger McDowell, former pitcher on the World Champion '86 Mets team, allegedly unloaded a series of homophobic slurs at three baseball fans, then threatened a father, in front of his two daughters, in a graphic manner. McDowell, the current pitching coach for the Atlanta Braves, apologized for the incident, but it wasn't enough for father Justin Quinn, who hired Gloria Allred to represent him. They wanted a harsher punishment for him, so they staged a surreal press conference to publicly shame McDowell and reenact the events—and as you can watch below, there is something very, very weird about repeatedly simulating anal sex with a baseball bat in front of two nine-year-olds. Random Photo Edit

It's strange enough that they would photoshop Hilary out of this iconic picture...

But why would they ironically replace her with such an elusive and mysterious figure?!

(from Yahoo)
Where’s Hillary? Hasidic paper breaks the rules by editing Clinton out of White House photo
Hillary Clinton's expression, right hand clasped over her mouth in astonishment, is largely responsible for making the above photo iconic--and, to at least one newspaper, sexually suggestive. In the photo, President Obama and his national security team are huddled around a conference table in the White House Situation Room, watching CIA director Leon Panetta narrate last Sunday's raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. The mood is clearly tense. When Women's Wear Daily consulted a coterie of photo editors and designers about why the image is "destined to be one for the history books," Clinton was foremost in their responses. "The Hillary Clinton expression is the one that holds the photograph fully," Time's photo director told the magazine. "You can see 10 years of tension and heartache and anger in Hillary's face," Conde Nast's Scott Dadich agreed. That would be the Ultra-Orthodox Hasidic broadsheet Der Tzitung, published in Brooklyn. The paper photoshopped Clinton, as well at the only other woman who could be seen in the room--Audrey Tomason, the national director of counterterrorism--out of the frame. Indeed, "The Hasidic newspaper will not intentionally include any images of women in the paper because it could be considered sexually suggestive," Rabbi Jason Miller explains in The Jewish Week. Though he notes that the publication's "fauxtograpphing" may in fact be a graver act against their religious tenets: "To my mind, this act of censorship is actually a violation of the Jewish legal principle of g'neivat da'at (deceit)."

Random Brother's Justice

I'm a fan of mockumentaries and Dax Shepard...

So this seems like a perfect match.

(from MovieWeb)
Dax Shepard wants to be an action star, whether Hollywood is ready or not. Brother's Justice chronicles the comedic actor's attempts to gain entry into this genre with surprising and hilarious results. Is it real? Is it fake? It's hard to tell as Dax appears on one talk show after the next, flaunting his ideas, and picking up a few famous cameos along the way. Co-starring Tom Arnold, and featuring such actors as Ashton Kutcher, David Koechner, Bradley Cooper, and Jon Favreau, Brother's Justice is a rollicking run down the wrong side of the Hollywood food chain. Random Game Of Thrones

If the world were judged solely on beheadings and sex...

Game of Thrones would stand alone as the greatest thing that ever happened. ever.

Sadly, our world is not judged on those things and in between the beheadings and naked women, Game of Thrones forces you to pay strict attention to the inner workings of an overly complicated familial power struggle on a mythical planet. It's filled with that oft confusing middle earth-like dialog, strange islands with savages (how come brown people always gotta be savages!) and dragon eggs... theories that are hard enough to pay attention to when you're not having sword battles and sex thrown in your face. That being said, The Game of Thrones is still pretty cool and HBO rarely disappoints. So let's hope this show gets less confusing and focuses more on the beheadings, etc...

(from TheEscapist)
Game of Thrones Pilot Features 4 Beheadings, 5 Topless Women
Years of anticipation will culminate on Sunday evening when the first episode of HBO's adaptation of George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones airs in the United States. The casting has been nearly perfect, the marketing push has been innovative, and all of the trailers and teasers have brought me to a near fever pitch of excitement. Review copies of the first few episodes have gone out to a few outlets and critical response has generally been positive, but it's also possible to evaluate the impact of the show quantitatively. For example, we know that the 10 episode season will cover the events of the first 694 pages of Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice series. But did you know that the budget of the show is estimated to be about $50 or $60 million or that it's HBO's highest priced series in international markets, beating out The Sopranos by almost 50 percent?

Random Verizon Guy

Truly the end of an era...

I never really thought of the Verizon "Can you hear me now?" Guy as a real person until now. Makes you think about these silly tv people.

(from Yahoo)
Verizon Phases Out 'Can You Hear Me Now?' Guy
You won't hear him now. Verizon Wireless is taking its famous cell phone commercials -- featuring actor Paul Marcarelli uttering the phrase, "Can you hear me now?" -- in a new direction. In a new profile in The Atlantic, Marcarelli says he was informed of the change via email last September. "Don't feel bad for me, but I'm definitely glad that chapter is over," he said. "Most people my age are now trying to trade in their street cred for money, and I kind of made my money." Marcarelli landed the role of Test Man nine years ago. At first, he says he was embarrassed. "The reality was, it was a job," he says. His contract obligated him to appear in 20-40 spots a year commercials -- in addition to numerous live events (including appearing in front of 85,000 football fans during the halftime show of the Buffalo Bills' 2002 season opener).

Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2 is the eighth studio album by the Beastie Boys. It peaked at #93 on the Billboard Hot 100 making it the Beastie Boys' first single in five years to chart on the Hot 100; the last time being "Ch-Check It Out" in 2004 that peaked at #68. Random Idiot's Bucket list

An Idiot Abroad series 2 is coming...

and I couldn't be happier!

(from Wiki)
Announcements have apparently been made that a second series--tentatively titled An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List--will be made and released in late 2011. This is taken mainly from a phone interview with Pilkington on The Richard Bacon Show on BBC Radio 5 Live on 1 February 2011. The new series will apparently feature Karl travelling the globe to take part in activities that are considered "things you should do before you die" or "kick the bucket", hence a Bucket List. According to Gervais' online blog filming is already underway and will be released later this year. It was revealed on Gervais' online blog that the first episode has been completed, it involves Karl going whale watching in Alaska on board an industrial fishing boat. READ MORE

Soccer fans take boy to 'watch' his favourite team... even though he's dead and in a coffin
A young soccer fanatic was gunned down on the eve of a big match as he played football in a park. But his friends decided not to let a simple thing like murder get in the way of his plans and took him to 'watch' his favourite team anyway. They collected the coffin containing the body of 17-year-old Christopher Jacome from the funeral home and marched it into the General Santander stadium in Cucuta, Colombia, to join the 42,000-strong crowd ahead of their match with Envigado.

Random Space Jam Box Score

Some people just have WAY too much time on their hands...

WAIT! The guy who did this was from the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective?!?!

(from Yahoo)
The box scores from 'Space Jam' for a nostalgia kick
For basketball fans, few cultural touchstones hold as much nostalgic pull as the 1996 comedy "Space Jam," a Michael Jordan vehicle in which His Airness joins forces with the Looney Tunes to defeat evil space villains who steal the talent of such '90s basketball luminaries as Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues. It's not as good a film as the next film starring these classic characters, the cruelly underrated "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," but "Space Jam" nevertheless means a lot to anyone who grew up watching basketball 15 years ago. It means enough, in fact, that Andrew Mooney of the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective decided to extrapolate from the film's in-game action and create a box score for the battle between the Looney Tunes and Monstars.
