Man Critical After Losing Arm In Fireworks Mishap
Police say a man lighting fireworks has blown off his arm at a party on New York's Long Island. Suffolk County police say 36-year-old Eric Smith's friends and relatives retrieved his severed left arm and packed it into a cooler after the blast Saturday. Police say doctors at a hospital are trying to reattach the limb. Police say Smith was using a three-foot metal tube to shoot mortars in the street in Islip Terrace at around 5:45 p.m. He apparently didn't or couldn't get out of the way before the explosive went off, and the explosive severed his arm at the shoulder as it shot out of the launcher.
