One of the most appealing elements of the Compass has always been its ability to deliver the performance of an SUV combined with the price, handling and fuel economy of a compact car. First we have the 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CDR turbo diesel unit which can produce either 134 bhp or 162 bhp. The higher output version delivers 23 bhp and 10 Nm of torque more than the old 2.0-litre unit, and according to the automaker, 65 percent of buyers are expected to choose this engine.
The petrol lineup available for the 2011 Jeep Compass includes a 2.0-litre and a 2.4-litre engine, both featuring the dual Variable Valve Timing technology with twin overhead camshafts. The 2.0-litre petrol comes with a 5.-speed manual gearbox while the 2.4-litre uses the CVT2 Continuously Variable Transmission. These two engine are expected to complete the 35 percent of overall sales.
A new-look engine line-up underpins this latest Compass range. It features three capacities and four outputs, each of which has been designed to combine performance with refinement and fuel economy to satisfy multiple uses. For the same reason, the Compass is the first new generation Jeep to feature versions with two as well as four-wheel drive. The 2011 Jeep Compass price will range from 16,995 GBP to 23,995 GBP.
