After the plane crashed into the Hudson River, this "citizen journalist" took a picture of the plane from his passing ferry... he snapped it with his iPhone and posted it to a flicker-lite site in about 30 seconds.
Within minutes we (I & cbs3.com) hounded this guy for the rights to use the picture on our broadcast and he instantly gained the attention of major cable news stations like MSNBC and CNN.
His 'follower' total rose from 700 to over 1200 in about 25 minutes (for point of reference we've had our twitter page for about 4 months now and get about 5 new additions a day)
The world we live in is insanely fast and twitter is a great example of the power of that speed.
